What the f**k am I thinking?
I've thought those exact words plenty - almost as many times as I've been on stage. Seems there's almost always a moment just before I go up where I think of all the other things I could be doing, things which don't stand the very real chance of making me look like an complete f-king idiot in front of lots of people.
This is kinda like that, but somewhat different.
For starters (Kickstarters?) - I generally don't do anything onstage which I haven't done a million times. My music is tattooed on some nether region of my noodle which conscious thought only grudgingly visits.. And while my "Dead Guy Opry" (that's what I call it for short) is nearer and dearer to my heart than anything I've EVER done creatively, this crowdfunding thingy has a lot of elements to which I'm a novice. Things I really really suck at.
Mainly, you know, the "funding" part.
I've never had a knack for sales (and there's no getting around that that's what this is). I've been highly encouraged by others who tell me I'd be a natural, but every time I've tried it I've not been able to shake the notion that my prospective customers might have a notion that I'm only being friendly so they'll give me money. And that I'm really just buggin' 'em.
It seems to me this Kickstarter endeavor requires a whole lot of buggin' folks. My inferiority-complex-riddled ass thinks this freakin' BLOG is prob'ly buggin' people. Yet bug them (you) I will. Between tonight at 6 Central and November 27th at 11:59 pm, you'll be sick to death of my sh*t. If you ain't already.
I'll be postin' on Facebook (from THREE pages!), I'll be doing some e-mailing from this Mailchimp doo-hicky I'm trying to figure out. I'll be tweeting. I'll be Insta-gramming (once I figure THAT out). I'll be doing everything I can to get folks to see in their heads what I see in mine - a completely unique musical presentation of some really twisted and funny sh*t. I've got some mega-talented folks (Sean Patrick McGraw, Anna Lynn Ferris, and - of course - Musical Director Steve Goodie) who already see it.
Sorry to bug ya, and hope I don't look like a f-king idiot.
