And Now for Country Completely Different...
Nashville songwriter adapts his twisted novel into R-rated Country Opera
Almost since its inception, Country Music has been served up in all manner of amalgams and incarnations, performed in all sorts of styles and formats.
It's never really been done like this before...
Dead Guy Opry is Ty Hager's own musical adaptation of "Diary of a Dead Guy," his novel about a murdered country singer telling his tale through a twelve-year-old redneck boy. Although not a commercial success, the novel - which includes many of the author's own stories of the music biz, drunkenness, homelessness, and general debauchery - has received rave reviews and been featured by popular Indie Book websites.
Steve Goodie, with whom Hager has worked for nearly thirty years as co-writer and musical collaborator, will act as Musical Director.
Sean Patrick McGraw (see below) is also serving as Vocal Director.
Casting is underway, with rehearsals beginning soon for the show's debut in the Spring. Hager hopes to begin work on a concept CD and film adaptation in 2018 as well.
